ABOUT ICON-ARCCADE

About Event Illustration
About event

As part of a university, Faculty of Arts and Design serves not only as a center for science but also a center for culture; it also plays a major role in contributing various thoughts which should be used as guidance for the community in conducting reformation to reach the ideals of a prosperous and dignified life, while upholding the noble values.

Over the past few decades, the Faculty of Arts and Design, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) has played a leading role in education, research activities, exhibitions, creative value creation, center of artists, and a range of art-related activities ranging from art, culture, and design. Nowadays, contemporary discourses and trends in art, craft, culture, and design have shifted from those with special talents and abilities to public in general. Sustainability, inter- and trans-disciplinary studies, socio-cultural issues and creative economy have therefore become inevitable core elements in the field of fine art and design. As part of the series of its 70th anniversary event, the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design ITB will host an international conference with the theme: "Sustainability, Inter- and Trans-discipline, Culture towards Creative Economy", with the aims and objectives:

  1. To search for different perspectives of thought from academicians, professionals, and practitioners in relation to the future of arts, crafts, and design;
  2. To serve as a medium for knowledge sharing and dissemination between universities, professionals, industry, and government;
  3. To maintain collaborative networks between university, industry, and government.

We cordially invited participants to attend this seminar for those who are academicians, government, researchers, practitioners, and students of undergraduate, master’s and doctorate programs.

Topic 1: "Sustainability"

By understanding the life cycle of art, craft, culture, and design, what can be offered as a positive added value for the local and global environment? What aspects need to be taken into consideration in evaluating the effects and impacts of materials, techniques, and circulation of art works?

Topic 2: "Inter- and Trans-discipline"

global world is dullness of a single discipline hence its inability to penetrate layers of lives of the society. It takes more than one perspective to understand the overall work and phenomenon of art, craft, culture and design. In what instances could it happen?

Topic 3: "Culture"

Are people only users of works of art, crafts, and design? To what extent is culture relevant with the works of art, craft, and design? What cultural aspects are deemed necessary in the process of creation, production, marketing and appreciation of artworks, crafts, and design?

"Creative Economy"

What could be the added value of art, craft, culture, and design? Can artistic ideas be treated as other economic commodities? What values can be and deserve to be incorporated into works of art, craft, culture, and design?
